Located just off the path, the Little Traverse Historical Museum chronicles early life in northern Michigan. It also showcases famous figures who’ve passed through the area, including Ernest Hemingway, who spent a lot of time here as a youth.Petoskey’s historic Gaslight District is also worth a visit. It’s lined with Victorian homes and small shops selling everything from local wines to boutique clothing to handmade jewelry. Just west of here, Bear River bisects the town. The river is well suited for whitewater rafting, but you can set out on a scenic walking path if you’d rather see the rushing waters from solid ground.
