The journey youll embark on remembers the pursuit of gold and how it changed many men and women pulling up stakes from their own homeland to this land of ever-changing weather, vast territory, and extreme beauty. The six-hour tour parallels the train route but has more opportunity to step out and inhale the fresh air, see the harsh snowy mountains of spring or the green meadows of summer. Wildlife can pop up unexpectedly – bears, Dall sheep, wolves, and possibly moose or caribou – since they know no boundaries. Engineering the Yukon River Bridge as you pass over it, makes one wonder – how did they do that? Your guide will help you discover lakes, peaks, valleys and maybe a small desert. These scenic views can include Pitchfork Falls, Moore Creek bridge, the Welcome to Alaska sign, Summit Lake and Tormented Valley. Although you may not find gold nuggets, youll have discovered what the gold miners couldnt see – the richness of the Yukon Territory – This is why your cruise ship stops here! Lunch is included on this journey – a delicious BBQ chicken, baked potato, coleslaw, homemade bun, coffee or tea and oh-so-yummy donuts. (Vegetarian option of lentil curry is available). The highlight of the trip is the dogsled cart ride! The dogs operate as a team, and eagerly pulls your cart through a one-mile forested course designed to train them. When the team is chosen, the dogs take their place and can’t wait to run. The dogsledding tour time is approximate 15 minutes and includes – team hookup; safety briefing and the ride. The Husky Village also allows you to pet the new husky puppies.Also included in your ticket is admission to two museums – the Wildlife Museum and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Museum. The Wildlife Museum holds an amazing taxidermy display of mammals. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police Museum commemorates the Mounties and their role in developing the Yukon.
