After World War II, the Bracero program brought a new generation of Mexican-born citizens to the United States—citizens who were often turned away at movie theaters, or at least ushered to segregated sections. The Cine El Rey Theatre, however, was built specifically for a Hispanic audience. Serendipitously, its early years also coincided with a period that many today consider Mexicos Golden Age of Cinema. But films werent the only things to draw crowds in. Some of Mexicos greatest performers made personal appearances on stage.
