Friday Evening Brewery Tour in Portland

For our first stop, well be visiting DL Gearys Brewing Co. New Englands oldest craft brewery resides in Riverside Industrial Park, surrounded by much younger players. See inside the space that kicked off Maine’s modern brewing revolution with the release of Geary’s Pale Ale in 1986. David Geary developed the local taste for British-style beers that helped revive America’s waning beer industry. Geary’s also has a nice tasting room to accommodate visitors to the decades-old facility. After 30 years of family-run operation, the business was recently sold to a local businessman who was not previously connected to the beer industry. This change has brought about a shift in types of beers being produced, some of which you will be able to sample during the visit.Next up, well be stopping at Lone Pine Brewing. After working in the retail side of beer for over a decade, Tom Madden decided that the time was right to break into producing his own beer. A long-time home brewer and Certified Cicerone, he reconnected with his longtime friend John Paul who had been working in the music industry in California. Together, they opened Lone Pine in March of 2016 in a former countertop production space in Portland’s East Bayside, and they are churning out popular hoppy ales for retail sale and enjoyment in their elevated tasting room.Last but not least, well be visiting Bunker Brewing Co. Originally based in a tiny, brick-walled former scrapyard building in East Bayside, Bunker Brewing Company has moved to a much larger former warehouse on the West side of town. Their creative brewers make a rotating assortment of ales and lagers, making this the perfect stop during which to ask the question, “What’s the difference between an ale and a lager?” Enjoy their spacious tasting room and outside patio while pondering that important question over a well-crafted Bunker beer. Finally, we’ll drop you back off at Old Port Spirits and Cigars to grab some bottles and cans before continuing your exploration of lively downtown Portland. Please note t
