City map and route layouts in hand, set off to explore San Francisco by bike!From Fisherman’s Wharf, you can take the car-free National Park bike path on a mostly flat route along the waterfront and through Fort Mason, the Marina, the Presidio and historic Fort Point. Pedal onto the Golden Gate Bridge to enjoy sweeping views of the city skyline, Alcatraz Island, and more! Once youve crossed the bridge, you can explore the charming bayside town of Sausalito, the continue on to see California’s famous redwood trees in Mill Valley at the base of Mt Tamalpais. From there, you can continue to Tiburon or cycle back. Ferry service is available from either Sausalito or Tiburon, and youll also have the option to take your bicycle onto to the ferry to return to San Francisco. If you prefer a more urban adventure, you can get started near Union Square, then venture west on bike-friendly Market Street over to ‘The Wiggle,’ a flat route to Golden Gate Park that’s popular with local cyclists. On the way, take a snapshot of the iconic Victorian ‘Painted Ladies’ at Alamo Square, then detour over to the Haight-Ashbury district to say hello to the hippies. Cruise through Golden Gate Park and over to Ocean Beach for amazing views of the Pacific Ocean, then continue onto the Golden Gate Bridge from there.Keep your bike for up to 24 hours to continue exploring at your own pace
